Life Drawing: 8-12-2015

Awwwwww!!! It felt sooooo great to get back into a studio with a live model last night. Shout out to the Winter Garden Art Association (http://wgart.org/) for holding these weekly studio sessions. LOVE IT!!!

Skylar's 5th BDay Invite!

Just finished these invitations for my daughter's upcoming "Little Mermaid" 5th birthday party. I'm conflicted emotionally as I very much look forward to doing these each year but the years keep coming at lightning speed. Hopefully, she and her brother won't mind me doing these invitations well into adulthood. :^)

Playing Catch Up!

It's been a while since my last post. So, I thought I'd drop a few pieces I've completed in the past few months and one I never posted for whatever reason. Anyhoo, the top two images are commission pieces I did for a family member and good friend. The bottom two are pieces I did for my son and daughter's birthday invites. :)

Pilot Action Girl!

New drawing! I heard someone talking about Amelia Earhart on the radio and this image popped in my head.

Snooty Guy and Tarnished Swamp Monster

Here are a couple new character designs. The Snooty Guy idea just popped in my head and the Swamp Monster was created after playing with the Character Design Shuffle app by Stephen Silver. It's a very, very cool app to get some challenging design ideas and put some parameters/limitations on your work.

Life Drawing: 2/11/14

Keeping at it, staying loose. I love how quickly one can find a feeling/emotion in a quick 30 second or 1 minute gesture drawing.

Life Drawing, OHHH how I've missed thee!!!

I'm back baby! It's been quite a while since I did some good, old fashioned life drawing. I have hereby decreed that I will focus on life drawing on a weekly basis. I should have never stopped in the first place. Staying loose and focused is essential to growing as an artist. And besides, this is my most beloved form of drawing and it is SOOOOO therapeutic.

I used the site: http://artists.pixelovely.com/practice-tools/figure-drawing/ for these. Check it out if you want some really nice poses to work from. The built-in time limits are great! I plan to also get out and draw from real life and hopefully attend a live life drawing session or two. Feeling good!

Ryan's 1st BDay Invite!

Here's a design I came up with for my son, Ryan's 1st birthday invite. Working on this was a lot of fun, but actually very challenging since I had to simplify everything. My nature is to overwork drawings and design.

Skylar and the Beast . . . and Ryan

I sketched this one up for my daughter Skylar's 3rd Birthday. My son Ryan even makes a cameo as Lumiere. I had so much fun with it that I had to take it to color. I must say and this is probably obvious, artwork is so much more satisfying when your heart is involved. Cheesy, but true. :^)

BoPrints on Etsy Now Open!!!

Howdy all!
So, I recently created a store in Etsy and named it BoPrints. This all came about because I had designed three pieces of bathroom art for my daughter (at the wife's request). I thought, "hey, maybe these things would sell." That led me to an idea to create prints of the alphabet using animals contorted into each letter. I've finished three of the letters and the rest are on the way. Take a look at my site and spread the word if you likes what you sees. =)

I'm Batman!

It's been a little while since my last post. I've been VERY busy in and out of work, but the sketchin' has continued. In honor of the release of "The Dark Knight Rises", I doodled another "playtime" sketch. This little guy is probably not supposed to be swinging from that chandelier, but he lives by his own rules! ;)

Earth Invaded! In Color!

I'm really happy with how this turned out. I love playing around with color and light to evoke mood. On to the next one . . .

Earth Invaded!

EXTRA! EXTRA! Strangers from above on the rampage! Board up you homes! Take shelter!

New Sketch. :)

Little Viking w/Color

Ready for Battle!

Little Viking

He's little. He's a Viking. New sketch. :)

Imagination, Assemble!!!

I haven't had a chance to see "The Avengers" yet. It's tough for me to get to the movies these days. But, I'm looking forward to seeing it. I really like how Marvel has led up to this massive movie. With all the hype, I was reminded of how much fun it was to play "superheroes" as a kid. For me, it was He-Man, Ninja Turtles or Batman. I'm sure right now there is a group of friends getting together, coming up with a plot and creating their Avengers uniforms: Imagination, Assemble!!!

Color version coming soon . . .

"I have a tail" . . .

Now, in glorious color! :)

"I have a tail"

"The Swamp" is a shady place. Corruption has overtaken the water, like thick algae. No one is safe. No one can be trusted. Creatures, big and small, work for and against one other in a constant struggle to rule the waterways. In this dangerous land, espionage is a way of life and you have no choice, but to watch your tail.

Sword Swallower

A little character design work here. I have a fun idea for an animated shot using the Malcolm rig (AnimSchool). I can't wait to play around with this awesome, FREE! character. :)

Drew Grit (and Colored it too!)

I had a really, really good time with this one. I didn't want to stop. But alas, I did. I've got other things to work on. =)
